Jack Hale married Sallie Moore. Her mother was the secretary at First Methodist for a million years. She had a sister named Mary Morey Moore. Good people.

: : :Was the biology teacher Horace Peterson? And about those petticoats-do you
: : remember the trail of dried starch (looked like dandruff) that we left on the
: : floors? I bet the janitor was glad to see that fad end.
: : I see Jack Hale every once in a while. He lives not far from Pete and me. He married Sallie (?).
: : I do have to admit that I don't remember selling toilet paper at the drive
: : in. But one of my fondest memories is of the old drive in movie that was on
: : fourth Ave in Bess. Peter Frank and I were watching the movie (yes we were)
: : and a COW came walking by the car. That is something that our children and
: : grandchildren probably won't experience.
: : We grew up in a special time and place.
: : Dianne BOWERS-TURNER

: : After having joined this site I have been filled with many memories of my time at BHS. I will share some of my memories, and you share some of yours.
: : :
: : : Driving the "Super" Highway between Puro's, Lochamy's BBQ, Slop (Super Sandwich Shop) Shop, and Russells. Just checking out who was out and about.
: : :
: : : Sadie Hawkins day! That was a lot of fun.
: : :
: : : Student Council and Mr. Turnipseed. Making Pom Poms to sell at the football games, and hearing Mr. Turnipseed murder the kings english.
: : :
: : : Biology (cant remember teachers name). I do remember a pop quizz where the question was , "How many eggs can a housefly lay in a season?" and Carolyn Shadrack answered 20 Crillion. He did not give her credit for that answer because he said it was wrong. He could not pronounce any of the TR sounds, and I thought she got a raw deal and really should have been given credit.
: : :
: : : Coach Hale. What else can you say?
: : :
: : : Sock hops and dancing in the gym during lunch.
: : :
: : : Alph tri hi y - Induction night and all the funny things we were made to do. Selling toilet tissue at the drive-in, etc.
: : :
: : : Highland Bakery - the best ice cream any where!!
: : :
: : : Drive In Theatres - Number 1 and Fair Park
: : :
: : : Do-Wop music.
: : :
: : : "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" and "Moments to Remember". I still tear up when I hear those.
: : :
: : : Crinolin petticoats. Never Enough, or enough starch.
: : :
: : : "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
: : :
: : : Homecoming parades.
: : :
: : : Pat Boone and white buc shoes.
: : :
: : : All of this and more!!! Lynda

: It was Coach Peterson!!(teahing biology) I thought the first few weeks of our sophomore year we would die giggling at him - talking about the moss on the cree crunk and somehow I remember him saying Donna Jean Graper. Does anybody remember the class assembly when Ronnie Giglio stood at the microphone, cleared his throat for about ten minutes and then announced "No, I am not Dr. Knuckles!"? I can still picture Mr. Turnipseed's expression of indignation. The student body nearly died laughing.
